Several Awards For Industrial Design Class From Vienna's University of Applied Arts
At the first edition of the "Createch ideas competition" organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Traffic, Innovation and Technology, the Industrial Design Class 2 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna finished first in three out of five categories. The competition called for creative solutions in the field of transportation of both passengers and goods. It aimed at companies from the creative industries as well as students. 21 projects were nominated out of a total of 56 submissions.
With her project "eRickshaw“, Anna Wiesinger, student of the Class for Industrial Design 2, convinced the jury in the category "Straight Forward: Street" which seeks ideas in the areas of mobility and transportation technologies. "eRickshaw" is a reinterpretation of the "rickshaw" concept, which deals with principles of lightness and emission-free locomotion through new design and modern, innovative technologies. The jury praised "the successful combination of tradition, modern technology and design. Another positive feature is the environment-friendly solar propulsion." 
Joachim Kornauth, Manuel Fröschl, Johanna Oberneder and Johanna Rüdisser, Class for Industrial Design 2, placed first with their "OB_08 - Office bus" in the category of "Vision of the Future: Street", where the focus was on the visionary aspect and the aesthetic quality of the draft. This bus allows to reasonably use office work and journey time, thus contributing to ease the burden on traffic and environmental protection. The jury justified the decision as follows: "Thinking of the connection between travel and work, the office bus is an ideal solution. The pure transportation function of the bus is expanded by the possibility of doing office work. It motivates business people to switch to alternative transportation," the jury said in its justification.
The project "Chiron", by Benjamin Cselley, Jupin Ganbari, Jessica Covi and Erol Kursani, Class for Industrial Design 2, is an environmental-friendly transport system for road and rail which was adjudicated the first place in the category of "Vision of the Future: Rail". An unique propulsion by means of biological fuel cells, where algae produce the needed hydrogen. The enthusiastic statement of the jury: "The work faces up to the future challenges of commercial transport in terms of flexibility, efficiency and environmental performance and shows new opportunities regarding intermodal freight haulage."
Among the 21 nominees were Philip Maul with his design "The Green Transformer" and Erol Kursani with "I.T." in the category of "Vision of the Future: Street" represented. The project "Chiron" was also awarded the second prize at the VDA -Award of the Association of the German Car Industry. The team members got the possibility of an internship at VW in Wolfsburg too.
